The Church of Holmsund

History of the Church

The Church of Holmsund was built in 1863 by Dickson & Co close to their sawmill at Holmsund. At the time of the building of the church Holmsund was a part of Umeå Country Parish (Umeå landsförsamling) and it was the priest J A Linder who made the designs for it. It was thus an ordinary church for the company's workers until 1918 when Holmsund became a parish in its own right and the church became a parish church. In 1986 a new extension was made on the church, which contains church hall, kitchen, a minor room used for devotion and other premises for congregational activity. Ever since the church is used for many different purposes both on weekdays and weekends.
